Welcome to 94WIP's G.O.A.T. of Broad Street, where we will finally determine who the greatest athlete in Philadelphia sports history is! Remember, in order to qualify, the athlete must have played in Philadelphia in the last 50 years (1970).

We are counting down the top 20 Philadelphia athletes over the last 50 years beginning on Monday, June 15th and ending on Thursday, June 25th. The rankings were determined based on votes from our fans and hosts.

You can view the full running list at 94WIP.com/goat.

4. Brian Dawkins

Stats: 1,147 tackles, 37 interceptions, 36 forced fumbles, 26 sacks, 19 fumble recoveries. 4 touchdowns

Awards: 4x First-Team All Pro, 9x Pro Bowl, NFL 2000s All-Decade Team, Eagles Hall of Fame, No. 20 retired

Analysis: Dawkins landing in the top five is not surprising. The only shocker might be that he didn’t come in at No. 1.

A Hall of Fame player at a position where it is tough to get in, Dawkins finished his career with 37 interceptions, 36 forced fumbles and 26 sacks — a sign of just how often he made game-changing plays. The memories of big plays that fans have are endless. The big hit on Alge Crumpler, flying in to bat the ball away from Ben Rothlisberger, the interception of Brett Favre in the playoffs and the touchdown against the Houston Texans are just a few of the big plays Dawkins made during his time in midnight green.

Despite all of the memorable plays, it is who Dawkins was as a person during his time with the Eagles that likely landed him so high on this list.

Perhaps the most popular player in the history of the Eagles franchise, Dawkins is what Philly fans want their players to be — elite, tough, physical and plays every snap like it might be his last. He seemed to care just as much as the fans in the stands did about winning. It isn’t a coincidence that even now there are more No. 20 jerseys in the stands at Lincoln Financial Field than any player currently on the team.
