For the first time since Donovan McNabb, the Eagles have truly, 100% commited themselves to a quarterback, signing Carson Wentz to a four-year extension on Thursday night that will keep him in the city through 2024.

After news broke, Wentz posted a message on Twitter, expressing how excited he was to sign the deal with the team that drafted him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

“I can’t explain to you have excited I am right now to be a part of this great city for this many more years," Wentz said. "From the moment we got drafted here, I knew this place was special. I knew they had the most passionate fans in all of sports, and I knew we had the opportunity to build something truly special here. To be cemented here for this much longer means the world to me.”

Wentz's time with the Eagles has been a rollercoaster to say the least. From a top pick to a potential MVP candidate in 2017 to the injured reserve list, Wentz has seen plenty of highs-and-lows, with his play just as unpredictable. Although he played a large role in the team winning the Super Bowl in 2017, he has also ended each of the last two seasons on the bench due to serious injuries -- a torn ACL in 2017 and a fractured back in 2018.

Now that he is healthy, however, Wentz has looked great at OTA practices, finally free of his knee brace and completely cleared from his back injury. By signing Wentz to an extension, the Eagles have made a big bet on Wentz, hoping the player they have seen in OTAs and during the 2017 season is the one they will be getting -- not the one that has had major trouble staying healthy.

Wentz has remained confident throughout OTAs that he will be able to prove his doubters wrong, stay healthy and have a big bounceback season this year.

“It is going to be a fun ride. By no means is the work done," Wentz said on Thursday evening via Twitter. "We are just getting started, this year is going to be special.”
