The Eagles and Cowboys have a long history together, one that has included plenty of memorable big moments and plenty of big games late in the season.

This Sunday should be no different, as the two teams are set to meet in what is essentially a playoff game. If the Cowboys win, the NFC East title belongs to them. If the Eagles win, they can clinch the NFC East the following week with a win over the Giants. The two teams playing a game in December with these kind of playoff implications doesn't happen often, but when it has, the Eagles have usually gotten the better of the Cowboys.

Since 2000, the two teams have played 13 times in December. In 2017, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2007, 2004 and 2002 the games didn’t mean anything. The two teams didn’t play in December in 2016, 2015, 2009, 2005 and 2001.

Six times, however, the teams have met in December with either within one-game of each other or with the playoffs on the line. The Eagles have come away with the victory in four of those matchups.

Here is a look at each of them:

December 9th, 2018: Cowboys win 29-23 in Dallas

The most recent big-game between these two teams was just last season, and set up much like this one. The Eagles were Eagles were 6-6, just one game behind the red-hot Cowboys, who were 7-5. As has been the case with the Eagles over the last two seasons, the Eagles got out to a slow start, while Carson Wentz was throughly outplayed by Dak Prescott. This game seemed to end the Eagles’ season — until Nick Foles came in and saved it.

December 14th, 2014: Cowboys win 38-27 in Philadelphia

Both teams entered this game at 9-4, but were trending in two very different directions. This was in many ways the beginning of the end for Chip Kelly, who just the month before had taken his team to Dallas and dominated the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Things fell apart quickly, however. With Mark Sanchez at quarterback, Eagles fell behind 21-0 in this one, and a second-half comeback wasn’t enough to secure the win. Dez Bryant caught three touchdowns and DeMarco Murray scored to help secure the Cowboys’ win. The win put the Cowboys ahead of the Eagles in the NFC East, and eventually lead to them winning the division.

December 29th, 2013: Eagles win 24-22 in Dallas

The legend of Nick Foles, and his ability to win big games, kind of started with this victory over the Cowboys. The Eagles went into Dallas at 9-6, but a loss would have given the division title to the Cowboys, who were were 8-7. Foles played well, going 17-of-26 for 263 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, but it was Brandon Boykin who sealed the game with an interception in the final minutes. The win clinched the NFC East for the Eagles, but they would lose in the first round to the New Orleans Saints.

December 28th, 2008: Eagles win 44-6 in Philadelphia

This game will forever be remembered by Eagles’ fans and is considered one of the best victories in the history of the franchise. The Eagles woke up needing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to lose to the terrible Oakland Raiders and the Chicago Bears to lose to the Houston Texans — both considered long shots. Sure enough, however, both things happened and the result was a winner-take-all game between the Eagles and Cowboys. The Eagles entered the game at 8-6-1, the Cowboys at 9-6. The Eagles absolutely steamrolled the Cowboys in this one, scoring 24-second half points on their way to a 44-6 win. The Eagles would ride the momentum of this one all the way to the NFC Championship game, where they would lose to the Arizona Cardinals.

December 25th, 2006: Eagles win 23-7 in Dallas

The Eagles needed a win in this one to clinch a playoff spot, and in front of a national audience, backup Jeff Garcia delivered. The Eagles scored on four of their first five drives, and the dominating win would eventually lead them to the NFC East title. The Eagles entered this game at 8-6, one game behind the 9-5 Cowboys. This game will forever be remembered for Garcia wishing Philadelphia a Merry Christmas after the game. The Eagles would make it to the divisional round of the playoffs before losing to the New Orleans Saints.

December 7th, 2003: Eagles win 36-10 in Philadelphia

This season started with the Eagles going 2-3, leading to panic around all of Philadelphia. After seven-straight wins, however, the Eagles entered this game at 9-3, with the Cowboys coming in at 8-4. With he Eagles losing to the Cowboys earlier in the season, a loss would have given the Cowboys the lead in the NFC East, as both teams would have been 9-4. The win, however, gave the Eagles a two-game lead over the Cowboys with three games to play, essentially clinching the division title. The Eagles would make it all the way to the NFC Championship game before losing to the Carolina Panthers.
