Nobody is safe from the injury bug that has plauged the Eagles this season -- not even players who are on the bench.

The team placed offensive tackle Jorda Mailata on the injured reserve list Friday, ending his rookie season. Mailata was on the injury report with a back issue this week, although he hasn't appeared in a game this season.

Taking Mailata's spot on the roster will be linebacker linebacker B.J. Bello.  It is possible that the Eagles decided to play Mailata on injured reserve simple to make room for an additional linebacker, considering Mailata was not going to play this season.

Mailata, a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, has been on the active roster all season. The former rugby player is viewed as a potential long-term option at left tackle, but now that he is on injured reserve, the fact he will end his rookie season without playing a single snap is not encouraging. Had the Eagles been officially eliminated from the playoff race prior to Week 17, ideall the team could have got Mailata in the final game. That won't be happening now.

Mailata is just the latest in a long list of Eagles players who have been placed on the injured reserve list.

Currently on the injured reserve list? Safety Rodney McLeod, defensive end Derek Barnett, running back Jay Ajayi, cornerback Ronald Darby, wide receiver Mack Hollins, cornerback Jalen Mills, wide receiver Mike Wallace and now, among others, Mailata.

And oh yeah -- their franchise quarterback could be joining that list soon as well.
