The Eagles are increasing the role of quarterback coach Press Taylor, adding passing-game coordinator to his title, according to an NFL Network report.

Taylor has been with the team since 2013, when Chip Kelly brought him in as an offensive quality control coach. He was promoted to quarterback coach prior to the 2018 season and has held that role ever since.

The team has not yet announced the promotion. Jeff Stoutland is currently the team's run game coordinator.

It is unclear if this will be the team’s move in place of an offensive coordinator, a position they have been looking to hire since they fired Mike Groh in January. Teams having two coordinators, with one focused on the run and one focused on the pass, is a new trend in the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers currently have both a run and pass game coordinator in place of an offensive coordinator.

If this is indeed the team's move to replace Groh, it means they will be without an offensive coordinator, and will once again not be bringing in a coach from outside the organization. Groh was promoted from receiver coach to offensive coordinator prior to the 2018 season. Since coming on as head coach in 2016, Doug Pederson has not added a significant new hire to the staff on the offensive side of the ball from outside the organization.

Taylor receiving a promotion is a sign of just how much Carson Wentz’s opinion is valued within the organization. Wentz is a big fan of Taylor and has spoken very highly of him since joining the team in 2016.
