NFL Draft 2019: Eagles' current draft pick is...

December 09, 2018 - 9:35 pm

This isn't the article you wanted to be reading. But following another crushing Eagles' defeat, here you are.

The Eagles' playoff chances are on life support following their 29-23 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, a game that all but ended their chances of winning the NFC East and dealt a big blow to their chances at the Wild Card. If you want to read how they still have a chance to make the playoffs, click here.

Otherwise, take a trip to the 2019 NFL Draft with me.

According to, the Eagles currently have the 15th worst record in the NFL. Due to tiebreakers, however, the Eagles currently have the No. 16 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The question is -- how much higher (or lower) could they get?

With games against the Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans and Washington Redskins left, chances are the Eagles are heading towards a 7-9 finish. Assuming they finish with at least seven wins, there are seven teams that they likely won't dip below. Those seven teams are the worst seven teams in the league currently, and of those seven teams, four have at least four wins. So unless all four of those teams finish with a 3-0 end to their season, the Eagles likely won't be picking higher than No. 8 in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Teams with five wins right now -- one less than the Eagles -- are the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Cincinnati Bengals, Detriot Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Giants. Those are the teams the Eagles could possibly pass on their way to the top of the draft. Teams right next the the Eagles are the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.

If the Eagles really collapse, and lose the final three, it is possible they sneak towards the top 10. The two teams most likely to finish strong and help the Eagles if they collapse are the Browns and Lions, both of whom won on Sunday. If the Eagles finish 0-3, picking as high as No. 12 shouldn't be ruled out. If they shock the world, finish 3-0 but don't make the playoffs, they will be picking No. 20.

With a 1-2 finish? That could land the Eagles somewhere between No. 14 and No. 16 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, an outcome that feels the most likely.
