Operation Legacy

Operation Legacy

Each April and November, Travis Manion Foundation organizes Operation Legacy Service Projects, which unite communities for a common cause through volunteer led service opportunities. More than 100 projects are scheduled across the country, with Americans nationwide invited to volunteer with TMF as a way to honor the past and build the future, while exemplifying the strength of America’s national character.

ENTERCOM, TMF & THE HOME IMPROVEMENT COMMUNITY JOIN FORCES

Under this umbrella, Entercom and TMF join forces to unite home improvement partners to donate their services to renovate the home a military veteran or first responder in need.

The Travis Manion Foundation Operation Legacy project is part of Entercom’s ongoing initiative to support veterans and serve those who serve us.

ENTERCOM RADIO STATIONS - TELLING THE STORY AND SUPPORTING OUR PARTNERS

As part of the partnership, Entercom Philadelphia stations – SportsRadio 94WIP (WIP-FM), KYW Newsradio (KYW-AM), Talk Radio 1210 WPHT (WPHT-AM), 96.5 TDY (WTDY-FM), B101.1 (WBEB-FM) and 98.1 WOGL (WOGL-FM) – support this program through on-air, online, social and video content across their platforms telling the story of this year’s recipient and the contributions of our service providers.

OPERATION LEGACY’S LATEST PROJECT

Travis Manion Foundation and Entercom Philadelphia, in partnership with Rosengarten Roofing, continue our Operation Legacy Service Projects renovating the home of Gold Star Wife Jessica Byrd of Philadelphia.

Jessica’s husband, Lance Corporal John T. Byrd, was killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq in 2004, while Jessica was pregnant with their son Elijah. Jessica has turned this tragedy into a life of service.

Jessica’s serves as an in-home nurse for caring for low-income, first-time expecting mothers.  When Jessica is not caring for her patients, she serves as an active volunteer for Travis Manion Foundation, including traveling to Central America to build homes for indigenous families.  Jessica also served as President of the Philadelphia Gold Star Wives chapter from 2006-2013.

Jessica continues to raise Elijah who is now 15-years-old and an honor student.  Jessica also has helped family members who have battled addiction.

However, a wonderful new chapter has begun for Jessica.  Jessica met her significant other Ryan, also a US Marines Veteran, who served in the Middle East. Jessica and Ryan just had a baby girl of their own on April 1st, named Cadence Marie.

Travis Manion Foundation and Entercom Philadelphia have united the home improvement community to rehabilitate the Byrd home.  The Byrd home is in need of many repairs and it is our honor to give back to Jessica for her selfless service and to honor the sacrifice that US Marines Corps Lance Corporal John T. Byrd made for our country.
