Part 2

Here's what Manuel said about some of his former players:

Shane Victorino

“Little guy, lot of pop. Good arm, good player, a lot of talent. Davey Lopes definitely helped him steal a lot of bases, Davey Lopes gave him confidence. He came very close to becoming a complete player, really. He was a big part of our team. He had a lot of energy, a lot of spark. Jimmy Rollins had a big part to play in Victorino’s (success), in how relaxed (he was) and everything like that."

Jimmy Rollins

“Never once did Jimmy Rollins and I ever argue. What I would say, he may think and study about it, but he never really had any problem ever at all. Jimmy Rollins is a tremendous guy and a heck of a player.”

“I could have taken him out of the game any time I wanted to, you can ask him. But at the same time, I didn’t want to take him out because I wanted to win the game that day."

Chase Utley

“Chase put together about four or five really good years. Serious injuries take a long time, sometimes, to get back into playing condition. Overall, I think of a complete baseball player…and he knows the game inside and out. He’s always ready to play. His preparation is off the chart.”

Roy Halladay

"Roy was a big time competitor. Roy Halladay is a guy who you want on the mound. He's also hard to take out of the game—I gotta have somebody real good when I replaced Roy Halladay. At one time, might have been the best pitcher in baseball. No-hitter and a perfect game in one season, that definitely ranks up there with me.

"Him and I worked together a lot in Clearwater. I used to eat lunch with him, eat dinner with him, I got to know him real well over the last few years."

Ryan Howard

"I love Ryan Howard. I nicknamed Big Piece, because he was that big guy in that lineup. He was the guy that we go to. We played our lineup and set it up for Ryan Howard. He was a big guy, with a nice, kind of smooth technique swing."
