Best Team of the 90s: 1991

Randall is the easy choice at QB, although he did very little in 94 & 95 and missed almost all of 91 & 93 with injuries. But it’s got to be Randall for the All-90s team.

Keith Jackson gets the nod at TE despite only playing for the Eagles two years in the 90s.

The offensive line was tough to come up with. I think it’s clear that this was the weakest part of the franchise’s teams over 10 years. I actually had to consider Antone Davis; that’s how bad it was. But I’ll take two years of Tra at LT, while, for the purpose of this exercise, moving Ron Heller to RT to round out the line. The actual Right Tackles were BRUTAL! And most of the Left Tackles weren’t much better.

The defense is pretty cut & dry. William Fuller was probably the best player left off this all decade squad, but I had to go with Reggie & Clyde. Jerome only played for the Birds for two years in the 90s, but his greatness compels that he be on this team.

The linebackers are rock solid and indisputable.

Bobby Taylor might be the second best player left off the team, but I couldn’t turn away from Eric Allen and Troy Vincent.

Dawk wasn’t quite DAWK until ‘99, but he was a four year starter in the 90s so he is an easy selection. And while I strongly considered an in-his-prime Greg Jackson for the other safety spot, I ultimately chose between Wes and Andre for the second safety position, and settled on Wes.

The specialists of Ruzek, Feagles and Vai were very easy selections.

For head coach I go with Ray despite his massive drop off in ‘97 and ‘98. He’s the only Eagles coach to get the Birds to two playoff appearances in the 90s, and one of only two to win a playoff game.

As for the best Eagles 90s team, in all due respect to the 1990, 1992, 1995 and 1996 Birds, to me it’s a no brainer to go with the 91 squad. With THAT defense number one across the board, had Randall stayed healthy ..... AHHHHHHHHHH ..... what might have been.
