It appears the Phillies are going to have another offseason and John Middleton spending "stupid money," and the top priority very well may be starting pitcher Gerrit Cole.

"It also depends on if the Phillies go out there and land a Gerrit Cole, because that possibility is real and they are saying let's do it," said former Phillies pitcher Brad Lidge on MLB Network Radio. "Let's match it. Let's go out and get this guy. I'm just telling you right now, the Phillies are going to throw out some sick money toward Gerrit Cole and they could very well end up landing him."

Cole, 29, is a three-time all-star coming off of the best season of his career, where he led the American League in ERA with a 2.50 ERA while also striking out 326 batters and walking just 48. Cole finished second in the 2019 Cy Young voting, as well.
