Showalter 'presumed frontrunner', if Kapler fired

What is going on with the Phillies and Gabe Kapler? Right now, Todd Zolecki calls it a "coin flip" on if Kapler will return for a third season as Phillies manager.

And if Kapler is let go, Zolecki says Buck Showalter would be the leader in the clubhouse to replace him.

"Buck would make the most sense," Zolecki told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Wednesday.

"If they fired Gabe, I think Buck would be the presumed leader in the clubhouse in terms of who replacing Gabe, if they make that change. Joe Girardi, I think, is a similar type of a manager. But yeah, Buck, Andy MacPhail hired him to be the Orioles manager years ago. He worked with (Phillies GM) Matt (Klentak), he worked with Ned Rice the assistant GM, he has relationships with all of those guys. That would make a lot of sense."

Phillies owner John Middleton has drew some criticism for how long the franchise is taking to make a decision.

"The optics of this, Angelo, are not good there's no doubt about it," Zolecki said. "It is now day 10, 10 days after the season ended and seven other teams have made managerial changes. I can say this, Andy MacPhail is not going anywhere, Matt Klentak is not going anywhere. I would absolutely floored, Angelo, if anything happened to either of those two guys."
