Phillies sweep Rockies: 5 things

The Phillies got their first sweep of the season this weekend, since their opening series against the Braves, beating the Colorado Rockies in three straight games. The common thread between those two sweeps? Bryce Harper hitting bombs.

Here are five things from the Phillies' sweep of the Rockies.

1. Bryce Harper

Harper entered the series struggling, but broke through it this weekend. Harper went 5-12 over the weekend with two home runs, including a 466 foot bomb on Saturday night and four RBI.

Harper is hitting just .235 on the season, but now has nine homers and 31 RBI in 46 games.

2. Aaron Nola

On Saturday, the Phillies' top pitcher got back on track. Nola allowed just one earned run, striking out 12 batters in 6.0 innings, improving to 4-0 on the season. Nola has allowed only just one earned run in three of his last four starts and is finding his groove as the Phillies enter the third month of the season, an encouraging sign.

3. Jean Segura

The man keeps hitting. Segura had a four-hit weekend, improving his batting average to .322 on the season, good for 6th best in the National League. Segura has been the Phillies most consistent hitter this season.

4. Maikel Franco

On the flip side, Maikel Franco has cooled off. After starting the season on fire, Franco is hitting just .198 over his last 23 games with only one homer. This weekend, Franco went 1-11 with two strikeouts.

5. Where they stand

The Phillies are now 27-19 through 46 games, 2.5 games ahead of the Braves in the NL East. The Phils now have a seven-game road trip against two quality NL Central opponents in the Chicago Cubs (27-17) and Milwaukee Brewers (28-21).
